madura meenakshi temple

Many historical evidences of the temple have been found dating back from early A.D
The temple was almost completely destroyed in the year 1310 following the invasion of the Islamic conqueror Malikkapur. As kings who were followers of Islam were noted for their intolerance towards other religions, the invaders destroyed most of the ancient sculptures of the temple
The Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple is now under the administration of the HR and CE department of Tamil Nadu

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple was built by the Maharaja of Travancore in 1733. It is a splendid seven storied monument with numerous pillars, intricate carvings and mural paintings of natural pigments. This is the only place where Lord Vishnu (Padmanabha) is enshrined in the yoganidra posture. The Temple has been historically significant as the spiritual haven of Travancore kings.
The huge idol resides on the holy serpent Anantha, with the head on the southern side, the feet towards the north and the navel with Lord Brahma in the middle. The idol is viewed from three doorways. There is a big pool, Padma teertham, in front of the temple.

monsoon in india

India’s winters are hot and dry. The monsoon winds blow from the northeast and carry little moisture. The temperature is high because the Himalayas form a barrier that prevents cold air from passing onto the subcontinent. Additionally, most of India lies between the Tropic of Cancer and the equator, so the sun’s rays shine directly on the land. The temperature can reach as high as 110oF during the Indian winter.
The summer monsoons roar onto the subcontinent from the southwest. The winds carry moisture from the Indian Ocean and bring heavy rains from June to September. The torrential rainstorms often cause violent landslides. Entire villages have been swept away during monsoon rains. Despite the potential for destruction, the summer monsoons are welcomed in India. Farmers depend on the rains to irrigate their land. Additionally, a great deal of India’s electricity is generated by water power provided by the monsoon rains.

munnar

At an altitude of 1524 m and only 136 km from Cochin, Munnar is a paradise for tourists who love nature. Situated in the Kannan Devan Hills, the greenery and serenity of the place is certain to attract anyone. Besides the virgin forests, the low-flying clouds and the mist-filled valley makes it an even more pleasant destination.
Frequented by the British in colonial times, the best time to visit Munnar is in May.
One of the places to visit is the Kundale Tea Plantation. Everything you wanted to know about tea and how it is processed is what you get to see in these plantations. It is a sight and smell treat for the tourists.
Devikulam, 16 km south-west of Munnar and 1,000 meters above sea level, is a small town with green slopes with its cluster of red and blue gum trees. The lake hidden amongst the rolling hills, literally means 'the lake of the goddess'. Legend has it that Sita and Rama came down to play in the lake, and hence its name.

The birth of a mountain

Mountains aren't just big piles of dirt, they're made of solid rock. Believe it or not, the rocks that make up the Himalayan mountains used to be an ancient sea floor. Over millions of years, rivers washed rocks and soil from existing mountains on the Indian subcontinent and nearby Asia into a shallow sea where the sediment was deposited on the floor. Layer upon layer of sediment built up over millions of years until the pressure and weight of the overlying sediment caused the stuff way down deep to turn into rock. Then about 40 million years ago, in a process called "uplifting", the sea floor began to be forced upward fMountains aren't just big piles of dirt, they're made of solid rock.
